To configure the Versa Operating System^TM (VOS^TM) software for the first time on branch devices, you perform the following steps:

1. Configure basic features, including organizations, templates, devices, and device groups. See Configure Basic Features.
2. Optionally, configure a public cloud device to be a virtual CPE router or an SD-WAN gateway. Normally, the VOS devices that you receive are preconfigured with this information. If they are not, perform this step. See Configure a Public Cloud Device To Be a Virtual CPE Router or an SD-WAN Gateway.
3. Configure and activate branch VOS devices using ZTP. See Activate VOS Devices.
4. Configure additional VOS software features on the VOS devices branch device. For more information, see Versa VOS SD-WAN Configuration, Versa VOS Network and System Configuration, and Versa VOS Security Configuration.
