LTE Modem Module
The CSG1000 series LTE modem module is a high-performance Cat-12 LTE Advanced Pro (LTE-A) modem that provides active-active connectivity to two active LTE access links, with download speeds up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds up to 100 Mbps. The embedded LTE-A Pro modules are firmware-controlled smart modems within built-in eSIM capabilities, thus allowing maximum carrier flexibility and ease of deployment. The appliance has two externally accessible SIM card slots, one for each embedded LTE-A Pro modem. If the appliance is configured with two LTE-A Pro modems, each SIM card controls one LTE radio each. The appliance also has two external USB slots that can be connected to an LTE dongle. With two internal modems, you can deploy up to four simultaneous LTE WAN connections.
All CSG1000 series appliances support 4G LTE-A, and you can use the appliances as the primary or backup WAN access link for branch and remote sites. Enterprise customers can deploy CSG1000 series appliances with up to two built-in and two additional attached LTE links simultaneously, providing unmatched resiliency and flexibility for wireless WAN access from the branch.
The CSG1000 series appliances are compatible with offer 5G and sub-6 GHz 5G, thus future-proofing the appliances for next-generation 5G networks and connectivity designs.
The LTE firmware-driven modem module provides the following capabilities:
- Externally accessible SIM cards that support dual-LTE modems.
- Connects to most global carriers' network depending on the SIM card inserted. For example, if the SIM card inserted is from Carrier A, the modem autodetects the SIM card and connects to Carrier A's network.
- Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver enables tracking and location-based services.
- Stores up to three firmware versions, thereby allowing the modem to switch to other networks.
- Firmware can be upgraded over the air.
- Secure boot provides secure connectivity by preventing unauthorized code on target devices.
The LTE modem connections are metered connections, and the Versa Operating SystemTM (VOSTM) software implementation ensures that the LTE service is charged only when needed. Policies and scenarios that determine the use of LTE interfaces are set by network operators and implemented by VOS devices accordingly.
Table 1 lists the supported LTE specifications.

The LTE modem modules have two SIM slots. You insert one SIM card into each of the two SIM slots, which are labeled SIM1 and SIM2.
If the appliance is powered off when you insert the SIM cards, the LTE functionality is activated when you boot the appliance. If you insert the SIM cards into the LTE modem module when the appliance is powered on and operational, you must reboot the appliance to restart the LTE modem and LTE functionality. To do this, you must power off the appliance, unplug the power cable, plug the power cable back in, and press the power button. Simply powering the appliance on and off does not restart the LTE modem. Also, pressing the reset button on the appliance or rebooting the appliance from Versa Director does not restart the LTE modem.
