Versa Operating SystemTM (VOSTM) devices can be configured to export usage-monitoring and system-load metrics to Versa Analytics. The metrics are used to build Analytics dashboard tables or to enable drop-down lists for certain charts. This article describes usage-monitoring and system-load metrics and presents examples of dashboards that reflect the metrics.
Most metrics described in this article are exported using the logging control feature of log export functionality (LEF). LEF supports the following types of logging control:
- General logging control—See Configure Log Export Control in Configure Log Export Functionality.
- Firewall logging control for all log flows—See Configure Firewall Logging in Apply Log Export Functionality.
- Firewall logging control by policy rule—See Configure Firewall Logging in Apply Log Export Functionality.
Usage-Monitoring Metrics
VOS devices export usage monitoring metrics at 5-minute intervals in the following categories:
- Access circuit usage for SD-WAN and DIA
- Application usage by tenant, appliance, and WAN link
- User usage by tenant, appliance, and WAN link
- VRF usage by tenant, appliance, and WAN link
- SD-WAN rule usage by tenant, appliance, and path
- SD-WAN path usage by tenant, appliance, and path
- Firewall rule usage by tenant and appliance
- URL category/reputation usage by tenant and appliance
- Source and destination IP address usage by tenant and appliance
- Firewall zone usage by tenant and appliance
- Forwarding class usage by tenant and appliance
The following metrics are exported for each category:
- Sessions—The number of sessions closed within the last measurement period. This metric is primarily used to identify session trends rather than reflect the count of currently active sessions. Current active session counts are maintained at the overall appliance level and can be viewed under Analytics > Dashboard > System. Since active session data is highly transient and resource-intensive to track, it is not maintained at a per-category level.
- Volume-TX—The total bytes transmitted within the last measurement period. This metric is used to calculate the transmit bandwidth (Bandwidth-TX) every 5 minutes.
- Volume-RX—The total bytes received within the last measurement period. This metric is used to calculate the receive bandwidth (Bandwidth-RX) every 5 minutes.
These metrics are available in selected Analytics dashboard tables and in drop-down lists on charts. For example, to display URL category information including usage-monitoring metrics:
- Select Analytics > Dashboard > Security > Web.
- Select the URL Categories tab.
Note that the URL Category Usage table includes usage-monitoring metrics.
- In the URL Category Usage Over Time chart, select a usage-monitoring metric from the drop-down list (here, Volume TX). The chart data is recalculated using the metric, and the chart redisplays with this metric as the y-axis.

System-Load Metrics
VOS devices export system-load metrics at 5-minute intervals within the appliance owner tenant's context, in the following categories:
- CPU and Core Load—The percentage of overall CPU and per CPU core utilization during the last measurement interval.
- Memory and Service Memory Load—The percentage of overall memory and service memory consumed during the last measurement interval.
- Disk Load—Percentage of disk utilization recorded during the last measurement interval.
- Session Load—A snapshot of the number of active sessions at the end of the last measurement interval.
- CPU Temperature—A snapshot of the CPU temperature of the VOS node at the end of the last measurement interval.
- System Temperature—A snapshot of the overall system temperature of the VOS node at the end of the last measurement interval.
These metrics display in the Appliance Health Monitoring table in Analytics. To view appliance health, you navigate to the Appliance Health Monitoring table and select the appliance owner in the first drop-down list. The health of all appliances owned by the organization are displayed.
For example, to display system-load metrics for devices associated with tenant Corp-Inline-Customer-1:
- Select Analytics > Dashboard > System.
- Select the Appliance Health tab. The Appliance Health Monitoring table displays.
- Select Corp-Inline-Customer-1 in the first drop-down list. System-load metrics display for each VOS device owned by organization Corp-Inline-Customer-1.
